MARIANNA CALAMIA

Common Sense Leadership

Hello, My name is Marianna Calamia. I am running for Councillor for Ward 1 because I believe residents deserve to have their voices heard, their concerns taken seriously, and have their priorities represented at Council.

I have the skills, knowledge, and work ethic to make a positive difference in our community.

What do I bring to Ward 1?

I hold a Ph.D. and bring more than 20 years of healthcare experience, building a career grounded in integrity, accountability, and service. I steward resources responsibly, manage complex budgets, guide large and diverse teams, and champion solutions that make a meaningful difference in people’s lives. To me, effective leadership means exercising sound judgment, making practical decisions, and taking responsibility for the outcomes.

My professional journey has reinforced the value of hearing different viewpoints, partnering with stakeholders, and developing practical approaches that put residents first. It has also strengthened my ability to address challenging issues, weigh competing demands, and make evidence-informed choices that reflect the needs of those I serve.

I will apply these skills and principles at Council through prudent fiscal oversight, thoughtful governance, strong representation, and a commitment to ensuring every tax dollar delivers value to our community.

As your Ward 1 Councillor, I will carry forward the same dedication, honesty, and sense of public duty that have shaped my career. My objective is straightforward: listen to residents, champion their priorities, and work diligently to help make Bradford West Gwillimbury an even better place to live, work, and raise a family.

Priorities

1. Fiscal Responsibility

Taxes.png

Residents work hard for their money, and municipal government has a responsibility to spend it wisely.

Fiscal responsibility is about setting priorities, protecting essential services, eliminating unnecessary spending, and making sure residents receive real value for every tax dollar they contribute.

My commitment: Spend responsibly and make every tax dollar count.

Streets.png

Bradford West Gwillimbury is growing. New development should come with the infrastructure, roads, parking, services, recreation, and community amenities needed to support it.

Managing Growth means that I will advocate for development that fits our community, protects neighbourhood livability, and respects Bradford's small-town character.

My commitment: Welcome responsible growth while preserving the character and quality of life that make Bradford special.

2. Managing Growth

3. Future Proofing Our Community

Residents and local businesses deserve a meaningful voice in decisions that affect their neighbourhoods, their businesses, their taxes, and their quality of life.

My commitment: Listen to residents, communicate openly, and make decisions with the community.

Our Ward is defined by Holland Street to the North, Sideroad 10 to the West, Line 6 to the South and Melbourne Street to the East. It comprises 52 streets, 3,000 houses and 9,000 residents. Together, we must tackle our critical challenges: improving traffic safety, ensuring responsible development, and addressing the lack of youth programming. I am committed to listening to your voice to deliver balanced growth for our community.
